Tau Kappa Epsilon
Founded on January 10, 1899, at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, Tau Kappa Epsilon has a rich and storied history. The five founding fathers—Joseph L. Settles, James C. McNutt, Clarence A. Mayer, Owen I. Truitt, and C. Roy Atkinson—sought to create a fraternity that valued character over wealth, making TKE inclusive and forward-thinking from its inception. From its humble beginnings, TKE has grown into the largest fraternity in the world, with over 290,000 initiated members and more than 220 active chapters across the United States and Canada. Our fraternity’s motto, "Not for wealth, rank, or honor, but for personal worth and character," reflects our commitment to inclusivity and the development of each member’s unique strengths.
